I know what it’s like to feel stuck in a career and personal rut, without a clear path to get back on track.
As an Executive Assistant in January 2016, on the first day at work after the holidays, I sat down at my desk and pulled out my notebook. My pen hovered over the paper, poised to list all the tasks to accomplish that week. But what my hand wrote instead, was this:
“I need to do something else. I don’t know what it is. But this time next year, I’ll be doing something different.”
For 8 years, I’d been a successful Executive Assistant at a large international pharmaceutical company. I’d been promoted 3 times, reached the manager level, doubled my salary, traveled internationally on business 10 times, and partnered with the company leadership to navigate several rounds of major organizational change.
Still, something was missing. I’d lost my sense of direction and didn’t know how to get it back.
With some expert support, I regained my confidence and made some bold choices. Sure enough, in January 2017, I was doing something completely different! My career and my life went from feeling “Meh” to “Hell YES!”
I founded Executive Assistant BreakThrough to help other assistants make the same leap. These kinds of shifts can be so difficult to create on your own. You deserve a partner on your team to make them happen.
It’s time to move beyond feeling stuck to feeling fulfilled and on purpose. Because there’s nothing like waking up, even on hard days, and knowing in your bones that you’re exactly where you want to be!
When I’m not coaching Executive Assistants, I’m spending time with my partner and our mischief-making Cornish Rex kitty at our home in Basel, Switzerland. My favorite things to do in our expat life here include hiking in the Alps, falling off my skis, foisting my German on unsuspecting locals, and consuming LOTS of chocolate.
